Website Maintenance: What to Do Every Month
Plan regular content checks, form reviews, software updates and backup responsibilities around your website's actual setup and business needs.
A website can need content changes and technical attention after launch. A regular review gives the business and developer a chance to notice problems and agree priorities. The right schedule depends on the site's importance, technology and existing support arrangements.
Review the public information
- Check phone numbers, email addresses, office details and opening information you actually publish.
- Review services, product details and any prices for outdated information.
- Open important links and note pages that no longer exist.
Check customer actions
Review contact forms, enquiry options and other agreed customer tasks. Coordinate any test that sends messages or changes records. Record the page, device and steps behind a fault so it can be investigated.
Plan software updates and recovery
- Review updates against the current platform and code before release.
- Agree which checks are required after a change.
- Confirm what is backed up, where it is kept and who can restore it.
- Discuss recovery responsibilities with the hosting or support provider.
Keep a small change record
Record what changed, when it was checked and who is responsible for the next step. Maintenance reduces avoidable problems, but it cannot guarantee that a website will never have a fault or security issue.
